Why Kate Middleton Didn’t Want George, Charlotte, and Louis Visiting Her in the Hospital

Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, spent a total of 13 days in the hospital for a non-cancer-related abdominal surgery. Naturally, her husband Prince William visited her during her recovery, but royal watchers noticed that her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis didn’t make the trip — and sources close to the royal family explain that it was probably what Kate wanted.

“I don’t think she wanted to make more of a big thing of it than it already was. They’ll be rallying ’round in their own way and helping to look after her,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward told PeopleShe noted that it was likely Kate kept her kids up to date with everything via FaceTime, which is also how she communicates with her children when she and William have royal engagements that take them away from home. People also noted that London Clinic, where Kate underwent her procedure, doesn’t allow children to visit without explicit permission. It’s to keep infections away and patients safe, People added.

Kate Middleton Has Left the Hospital Following Her Abdominal Surgery

Kate was discharged from the hospital on Monday and is currently recovering and resting at Adelaide Cottage, the home that she and her family have near Windsor Castle.

“I’m sure she’s utterly exhausted, but she’ll recover well,” Seward said.

Kensington Palace adds that Princess Kate is “making good progress,” and that both she and William are grateful to the medical team at London Clinic, “especially the dedicated nursing staff.”

Kate has cleared her schedule for now and is expected to return to public engagements around Easter. Kate has a strong support system at home, the publication notes, with her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, sister Pippa Middleton, and the family’s longtime nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo all on hand to help out.

A close friend of the Cambridges explained that William and Kate don’t have “a huge private staff,” and “as a result, William is really hands-on.”

“He doesn’t want any mistakes made with the next generation. He wants to give them a proper upbringing and lots of love. That is foremost in his mind,” the friend finished.
