Nearly three decades after her passing, Princess Diana is still in the hearts and minds of many people—and with a new documentary, those people are getting new details and revelations about her passing in 1997. According to People, a new docu-series, Who Killed Diana?, is set to explore the circumstances around the late royal’s death at age 36. Deadline adds that the show’s team promises rare interviews, including first-ever sit-downs with key sources, and is set to “cast new light on the case that has captured the world’s attention for decades.”
Who Killed Diana? will be the first installment in a new franchise that will spotlight iconic figures and examine “the human stories and historical context at the center of these cases.” The team behind the upcoming Diana series also created 2023’s Who Killed Jill Dando? and 2022’s The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe for Netflix. While no release date has been shared for Who Killed Diana?, it was revealed that it will be a three-part special.
“Exploring legendary women through investigative journalistic documentaries is a passion of mine,” producer Emma Cooper shared. “Just as we did with The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe, we’ve taken a story the world thought it knew and uncovered hidden truths. I am committed to approaching this beloved and iconic woman’s story with fresh perspectives, new voices, and previously untold information.”
Diana died alongside two other individuals in the Parisian car crash: boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed and driver Henri Paul.
“There are very few moments like those in history,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward said of the moment on the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death. “I remember where I was in every tiny detail when I heard about Diana. It affected everybody.”
